The song Drume Negrita or Sleep Little Black Baby Girl was sung by the Afro Cuban slaves to their babies in the cradle. They were wishing them to sleep so Mama could pick cane in the fields. If a slave had a crying baby, that could be mean real trouble with the overseer because that meant less work was being done in the field. The song is sung in Spanish with Yoruba words mixed in.
