Sister Love: Vassar Girls Hang Tight

Something magical happened and I forgot to thank the universe for sending this bundle of magic named Cheryl Seraile my way. I was overwhelmed, exhausted from work, supplying so many people with what they need and desperately needing someone to take the weight, the decision-making and do for me what I so often do for others. The other night I was on the verge of tears I was so exhausted and if one more person said to me, “Why don’t you do it?”  I was going to seriously lose it. And out of nowhere, within minutes of thinking that, I get an email from Cheryl. What are you eating now and when can I cook for you? I looked at her email and just started bawling…minutes later, she emails me a menu and 3 days later, she’s sitting in my living room with tubs of plastic wear filled with food to last me a week. I just stood there all teary, in a ratty house dress from pulling all nighters trying to meet deadlines. And then we watched a movie, talked junk and ate again and again for three hours. I didn’t have to go anywhere or be anyone for anybody. It was so rare and so amazing and so needed. And when I thanked her, she just brushed it off and said, “Look when Lorraine Hansberry was writing her masterpiece, I betcha someone was bringing her a plate. And if my daughter’s going to be reading your work in college, I want to be able to say, Mommy cooked for her so she could write for you.”

I have no words to express how much that meant to me…to know that all my work, my dreams mean something to someone else, enuf to care and remind me to care for myself…thank u, dear sister…thank u… all love…all the time…thank u cheryl…
