When I was 6 years old, my great grandmother, grandmother & mother used to take me to Peoples National Bank of Commerce in Miami, our first black-owned bank, run by black people in 1970's Miami.
Why?
They were so proud to stand in that long line in that hot lobby because it was a black owned bank and one of the first black-owned, black-run institutions in Liberty City.
Black people could get their dream homes financed and move out of the projects...
Today I got to carry that legacy forward. I opened a savings account at OneUnited Bank, the first black internet banking company which now owns the Miami's Peoples National Bank of Commerce where my grandmother and great grandmother banked.
We have to start somewhere...here's my step...
