I don't believe there has been one single major motion picture that was cast solely on talent... it seems so anachronistic that actor training is focused solely on the merits of talent, only to enter a world where talent is usually the 4th or 5th consideration behind business and numbers crunching. So interesting that our training is at such odds with the real world. While there should be a divide, I don't believe it should be so profound. And I'm puzzled by artists' complete obliviousness about that divide. The stance that business is wrong and art for art's sake is the only worthy reality leads to unhappy, unsatisfied artistic lives. We should be learning new tools for the new industry we're say we so committed to. Instead of digging our feet deeper in the sand insisting that the industry stand still so it can live up to the expectations of our dreams.
