So the 400 year holocaust is clear in my mind. I remember seeing Django and these kids laughing about the metal masks placed on the slaves faces and the sex/torture shows and the machine called the buck and the machine in which Django was suspended and the kids laughing about how over the top Hollywood is and I stopped them and said. None of that was over the top, those things were all real. They just stared at me. I was appalled. Do you know what the buck is? The parasite that lodged in slave women's wombs that forces their uteruses to hang outside of their wombs and how they picked cotton like that and gave birth? If you don't know the details of slavery the way Jews know the details of the Holocaust, then you need to start reading and telling those stories like there's no tomorrow.
Our history is nothing to cry over, it's to be yelled out, retold to the rafters and not in some sad, shameful, "let's not tell our business" bullshit way, but in a proactive way to ensure that it never happens again. There should be 20 new slavery films/plays coming out each year that tells the stories of daily, survival, grace, turmoil and love. We should tell it to free ourselves of it and to make it real to white folks for whom it just seems like 2 shameful pages in a history book.
It's not real...and it's up to us who believe in freedom to make it so...not just complain about what isn't....
